Made in the USA…

It is no secret that a majority of the products we buy, the food we eat and the cars we drive are no longer produced on US soil. We live in a global economy and in a capitalist society one driven by cost and consumerism.

Manufacturing is a large part of the U.S. economy, accounting for nearly 12%. It is also responsible for more than 70 percent of private-sector investment in research and development and employs 60 percent of research and development workers, according to the report. It also generates 90 percent of all U.S. patents.

It is not just the men and women who work on the factory floor that rely on manufacturing as a source of income, but it is the higher-skilled service jobs including accountants, bankers, lawyers that are associated with any industry as well as broad range of other jobs including research and design, engineering, operation management and marketing. When manufacturing moves overseas, these jobs eventually move as well. It is these core competency jobs that are critical to American technology and innovation.

This is why having a critical mass of both manufacturing and associated service jobs in the United States matters. We are slowly seeing a transition and a re-investment to bring back manufacturing to the U.S., but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Manufacturing is the most profitable U.S. industrial sector, returning $1.48 for every $1 spent. The sector has added about 12,000 jobs per month over the past 45 months, with only nine of those months absent a gain and just two days ago General Motors announced a $1.3 billion investment into their U.S. Manufacturing plants.

Companies that have brought their production back to the U.S. have not only see cost reduction due to increasing overseas labor costs, but increased productivity. Having manufacturing located within close proximity to a company’s headquarters not only assists with the product development process, but also increases time to market leading to increased profits.

Having the right manufacturing partner makes all of the difference. A&D turns your innovative ideas into brilliant reality. A&D focuses on world-class quality, modern design, reduced cost and accelerated time to market throughout the entire product development life cycle. Not to mention every product manufactured at A&D is made right here in the U.S.A.
